“Coming home to a family…” – NPUK Annual Family Conference

Posted: 10.08.17

It’s often said that the NPUK Community, one that is as loving as it is diverse, is like being part of a family…which is likely why our Annual Family Conference is held in such high esteem – as it is our biggest get-together of the year! The event is a unique opportunity for clinicians and medical professionals, families and NPUK staff, and everyone in between to join together under one roof. No wonder people get so excited about it!

This time around our Conference will be held on the 22-24th September 2017 at the Mercure Haydock Hotel, which is nestled in between Manchester and Liverpool – a relatively central location which we hope will make it possible for more of our beloved community members to attend than ever before! If this is your first Conference and you don’t know quite what to expect…then here are just a few words from past attendees to give you a little insight into what this extra-special weekend offers:

“Feels like coming home to a family. We are able to create lifetime friendships all over the world where you don’t need a language to understand each other.” – Mietje De Keyser

“The NPUK Conference is a truly special event and I always leave hugely inspired. It brings together all those involved or affected by Niemann-Pick whose strength and resilience never fails to astound me.” – Joella Melville

“To me the NPUK Conference means excitement and hope as every time we meet we are one step closer to a cure for Niemann-Pick.” – Siri Skollerud-Blegen

“It’s a life changing experience. Being with families makes you realise you are not alone…we cry and laugh together, and learn from each other’s experiences…we are one big family and have made life long friends.” – Stefanie Rymsza

“The event is a big hug to parents and family. My family and I felt totally welcome!” – Luiz Gustavo

Once again this year’s Conference programme will offer you the opportunity to hear the latest developments clinical trials and therapies for both ASMD Niemann-Pick disease types A and B, and Niemann-Pick type C, plus related care issues, breakout sessions, and workshops. Expert professionals and NPD family speakers from around the world will provide interactive presentations focusing on the practical management of Niemann-Pick diseases, clinical trials, and potential therapies, plus much more. It’s not just about hearing the the latest research and clinical updates, this weekend is also about sharing information, meeting new people and making new lifelong friends!
