Shoutout to Blair, Keith and Julie Algie, members of ‘Leeds Children’s Transplant team’, who are competing at the British Transplant Games 2022 (28-31 July 2022) after 2 years of waiting during the pandemic.
In 2014, Leeds General Hospital oversaw Blair’s life-saving liver transplant, and this year Blair is supporting Leeds Hospital Charity by taking part in the games. Blair’s mum, Julie, shared a little insight into why they are taking part:
“…we are fundraising to help send 40 children from around the UK, who have had life-saving liver or kidney transplants at Leeds General Hospital to the 2022 British Transplant Games in Leeds (28-31 July 2022) so that they can all celebrate their Gift of LIFE…”
At the British Transplant Games, Blair will participate in 4 different events; ball throw, cycling, track & the wheelchair dash. Blair will also have Keith and Julie by his side in the 3k Donor walk/wheelchair push, in the memory of their hero, Blair’s donor.
Julie has written a little more about this section of the Games and why it is so important: “…Blair, Keith & I will also be taking part in the 3k Donor walk/wheelchair push, in memory of Blair’s Donor, he’s our Hero. It’s a celebration of life, a fun, uplifting & emotional event…”
“…Any form of exercise is a challenge for him [Blair], but last year his granny bought him an assisted bike & he loves to ride it. Last week he got back in the saddle for the first time this year. Monday marks 30 days to the games, so Blair’s challenge is to cycle 30 laps of our local park or his school field before the games start…“
