Tandem duo get in the saddle: two friends have teamed up to raise money for NPUK by cycling 300 miles in just four days…all whilst dressed as Minions!

Simon McGrath and Chris Dunkley both turned 50 this year and to mark the milestone they decided to get training for a fundraising challenge in August. The duo dubbed the fundraiser ‘Despicable Us’ after the film Despicable Me which featured the well-loved little yellow characters.

Simon and Chris aim to raise as much money as they can for NPUK. Simon explained:

“…we’ve been inspired to raise funds for NPUK by 16-year-old Jack, a member of our sons’ youth football team who was recently diagnosed with Niemann-Pick Type C (NP-C).

Football-mad Jack is a friendly and popular member of Long Buckby Stags Under 16s and has played with the team for 10 years. Despite the daily challenges he faces, Jack is determined to continue to train and play football…”

Minion Simon and Minion Chris will set off on their challenge from Scarborough Pier and cycle back to Weedon in Northamptonshire, where they will be welcomed home four days later with a fundraising party. They will camp along the way and be helped by a support crew of family members travelling in a motorhome kindly provided by Swift (www.swiftgroup.co.uk).

The fundraising effort got off to a good start with £500 raised at a restaurant dinner. You can find out more about their efforts and show your support here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/despicableus
