Self-Care Saturday: Pamper Yourself at Home

Posted: 03.04.20

It might seem difficult to pamper yourself when we’re stuck in the home, but sometimes you just need to get pretty ingenious with a couple of common kitchen ingredients.

In this post we outline six super simple face masks for a wide variety of skin types. Mix up the ingredients, slap onto your face, sit back for 15 minutes, relax and remove with warm water. Voilà!

For Dry Skin:

• 1 Avocado
• 2 tbsp plain yoghurt
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp honey

Add a bit of hydration back into dry skin with this simple moisturising face mask. If you are wanting to get science-y the omega fatty acids in the avocado and olive oil help seal the cracks between skin cells. And the soothing ingredients, like honey and yoghurt will leave your skin feeling very soft. Just make sure to rinse well around the hairline!

For Acne-Prone Skin:

• 1 mashed banana
• ½ tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp turmeric powder

If you have acne prone skin, you might want to incorporate this mask into your regular routine. Bananas are full of vitamin A, which helps pores stay clear. Plus the turmeric powder staves off acne-causing bacteria and the baking soda absorbs excess oil.

For Rough Skin:

• 1/2 cucumber, pureed in food processor
• ¼ cup milk
• 1 tbsp honey
• 1 tbsp brown sugar

This mask is super cooling, reduces red skin AND smells so amazing you will momentarily feel like you’re in a glitzy spa and not your kitchen.

For Sensitive Skin:

• 1 tbsp yogurt
• 1 tsp honey
• 1 tsp cocoa powder

For sensitive-skin types who experience redness, yogurt is a great base for a face mask: It’s rich in probiotics and soothing skin proteins. Flavanols (like the ones you’re adding in the form of cocoa powder) calm irritation, while honey tightens the skin. What a trio!

For Oily Skin:

• ½ cup cooked oatmeal, cooled (obvs)
• 1 egg
• 1 tbsp lemon juice

The acidity in the lemon juice removes excess oil and dead skin and the oatmeal soothes the skin and calms patches of redness.

For Tired Skin:

• Juice of 1 lemon
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 1 tbsp olive oil

We’re going for that dewy glow with this facemask. The sugar and lemon work together to exfoliate dead skin cells, while the olive oil hydrates your skin.

So, there we have it, six super simple face masks. You will be positively glowing and the fifteen mins you leave the mask on is a great time to chill out and put your feet up. What’s not to love?
