On 5 October 2026, IntraBio announced that it has entered into an agreement to be acquired by Shionogi, a global pharmaceutical company with a growing commitment to rare disease.
We recognise that news like this may naturally raise questions for people living with Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC), their families and the wider community. We therefore want to reassure our members that there is currently no immediate change to access to AQNEURSA® (levacetylleucine), patient support programmes or ongoing clinical studies. IntraBio has confirmed that it will continue to operate independently until the transaction is completed.
According to IntraBio, this partnership is intended to combine the company’s rare disease expertise with Shionogi’s global resources and reach, with the aim of making AQNEURSA available to more patient communities around the world.
Niemann-Pick UK will remain closely engaged with IntraBio and, in time, Shionogi, to ensure that the needs and voices of people affected by NPC remain central throughout this transition.
