A Significant Step Forward in NPC Research

We’re pleased to share an important update from Cyclo Therapeutics, marking a significant moment in ongoing research into Niemann-Pick disease type C (NPC) and offering a real sense of progress for the global community affected by this rare condition.

Cyclo Therapeutics has announced that the final patient has now completed their last visit in the Phase 3 TransportNPC™ clinical study, which is evaluating the investigational therapy Trappsol® Cyclo™. This milestone represents the completion of the active treatment phase of the study and brings researchers one step closer to understanding whether this therapy could play a role in treating NPC. For individuals and families living with the condition, reaching this stage is an important moment, reflecting both progress in research and continued momentum towards potential new treatment options.

A Global Collaborative Effort

The TransportNPC™ study is the most comprehensive clinical trial conducted in NPC to date, involving 94 patients across 27 sites in 13 countries. Its scale highlights the level of international collaboration required to advance research in rare diseases, bringing together clinicians, researchers, and patient communities from around the world.

In addition to the main study, a smaller sub-study included ten patients ranging from newborns to 3 years of age, helping to broaden understanding of the disease and how it may be addressed across different age groups.

What Happens Next

Cyclo Therapeutics has indicated that top-line results from the study are expected later this year, alongside plans to submit a New Drug Application (NDA) in the United States in the second half of the year. While the results themselves are still to come, reaching this stage represents a significant achievement following many years of work.

The development programme behind Trappsol® Cyclo™ spans over a decade, beginning with compassionate use efforts in 2009 and evolving into the large-scale, global study now reaching completion.

Looking Ahead

This milestone reflects the dedication and commitment of everyone involved in the study, including patients, families, healthcare professionals, and researchers. Progress in rare disease research is often gradual and dependent on strong global partnerships, and updates such as this demonstrate the importance of continued collaboration in moving the field forward.

As the community looks ahead to the release of results, there is a shared sense of hope that this research will help shape future treatment possibilities and improve outcomes for people living with NPC.
